Nikon 200mm 4.0 AI

Nikon 200mm 4.0 AI on Sony A7

A telephoto lens produced from 1977 to 1981. For a 200mm lens it is light and has a built in lens hood. It's fun to work with. Of course it's not an APO-lens, so one thing is for sure, you have to correct the chromatic aberrations in post.

Clicking on a crop loads the whole image in original size. A tip for Retina display users: Zoom in 1.5x or 2x. Otherwise you are not really in 1:1 mode.
Images are developed from RAW files in Ligtroom 5. All adjustments are Lightroom standard (sharpness: 25/1/25/0).

Conclusion Nikon 200mm 4.0 AI on Sony A7

I like this lens very much. Resolution quality is on par with the Minolta 200mm f/4.0. Like the Minolta, the sharpness of the edges are somewhat behind but I have no trouble with that. It's good enough. Somehow I love the color rendering of the Nikon more. It has a special vintage look. The focus ring operates very smooth and is not as stiff as with the Minolta. So it's a lot of fun to handle it. Removing the chromatic aberrations in post is not a big deal and works well. If you want a bit more, do some gently sharpening and push the micro contrast slider a bit. This is a good lens.
